Joshua 1:1-9

Take a moment to ask God to meet with you today, then reflect on these verses by reading them a few times

"After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide: "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them-to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates-all the Hittite country-to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door” – Bilbo Baggins

Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” In the “Where” you need to ask yourself "Where do I want to start?" Most tasks, whether big or small, are made up of many little steps – from washing the dishes through to building the Great Pyramids. There is always an initial and most logical first step that leads to the second, then to the third and so on until completion.

We are nearing the end of this devotional series, so it's time to ask - what is your first next step?

The world seems to be made up of two kinds of people: those who make things happen and those who watch things happen. I want to encourage you to be one of those who make things happen. Like Joshus we need to be bold and courageous and step out in faith, trust God and work with Him to make the world a better place.

The world doesn't need many more thinkers or dreamers, it needs more people of action. People who are willing to stop and do things no one else is doing. Will you be one of these people? There are so many opportunities and exciting possibilities in the world but so many of these are going unrealized. There are also many needs in the world, so many things it could be different.

So what are the first things that you need to do to make a start? What are your small daily goals? Who could you call upon to keep you accountable to accomplishing these goals? Take the first step. Schedule it. Don't get overwhelmed by the thousand mile journey, just take the next step!

It's time to get started...

Q&A:

Questions for reflection: What might hinder you the most from getting started? How can you overcome that barrier?

Action to take: What one thing can you do today that will start you on your journey of Passion, Vision and Action?
